Soccer, as some would call it in other regions of the world, football. More than 240 million people worldwide are involved in playing the game of soccer, and over 1.3 billion people are interested in the game. Soccer is the most populous ball sport in the world.
The game involves 11 players with one goalkeeper stationed to prevent an opponent team from getting the soccer ball into the goal post. The game is played by only moving the ball except with hands; only the goalkeeper can hold the ball with the hand.
Origination of Soccer
Several beliefs around soccer have emerged, while some thought of soccer, a game that evolved out of violence and murderous situations, where barbarians of old kicked skulls around through miles to reach a goal post.
These beliefs have several facts missing, soccer has been around for thousands of years and can be traced to two origins: the ancient and the modern evolutions.
The Ancient Origin
As far back as ancient Egypt, 2500 B.C., tales of activities involving the kicking of a bolus of rubbish around by groups of people were told. While the about 300 B.C. China is the first confirmed history of a foot-like only game synonymous with soccer, a game called tsu-chu, where soldiers played around with leather carve balls kicked into nets. As there were other ancient similar versions is the non-violent competition in japan called kemari.
Other ancient occurrences of the game in different regions from the ancient Roman and ancient Greek greek were harpastum and episkyros.
The modern Origin
This OriginOrigin gave rise to what we have today as the modern football games, consisting of crowds of people known as the spectators, hailing and raising soccer team banners of their favorite teams.
Modern football evolved from the British regions in the early 19th century. Before the games were ‘cleaned up’ and well organized, it was seen as invariants in the 9th century, but these variants had a common identity: first, the use of all body parts, including arm and legs.
Though the games were quite violent because it usually involves many people, sometimes an entire village. Such that, the simple two rules of the game were; no murder and no manslaughter. History tags this variant as a mob football.
The Spread Of the game
Soccer grew and evolved as humans and civilization did; more groups of people in nations were being formed. The game spread throughout Britain, mostly in the Britain public schools, where football associations were formed. The use of the hand in soccer was not prohibited until the 1860s. The game exploded to other countries in Britain, including Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
Soccer Competitions and the Rules Following
As the game got more attendance and interest across the world, organizations were set in place to regulate the game’s activities. The IFAB, fully known as the International Football Federation Association Board, was founded in England. They were responsible for setting the game rules; these rules set the hallmark of modern-day football as we have it; rules guiding penalties, free kicks, and corner kicks.
The first international competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup (F.A. Cup), which occurred in 1871, a year after the match between two nations teams which involved England and Scotland, ended 0 – 0; this had spectators of over 4,000 people with voices raised and soccer banners raised in support of their nations.
Football has identified with Britain, but it spread in influence to the European countries as time went on. Argentina was where the first European games held.
The great modern competitions today are those organized for the world. Apart from the Olympics Soccer games, no other sporting game would measure itself with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), founded in 1904.
The first FIFA world cup games were played in 1930 and held every fourth year with two exceptions through the years because of the second world war. Today the most prominent European game is the European Championship Leagues.
Hall Of Famers
